“Su From So” – A Heartwarming, Humorous Social Film Review

“Su From So” is a groundbreaking film directed by J. P. Thuminad, released on July 25, 2025. The film is a comedy-drama film that mixes humor with a social message in a unique way, making it a treat for our social lives.
Story
The film takes place in the village of Maidara in Someshwar district of coastal Karnataka. A “bindas” young man named Ashoka (J. P. Thuminad) sends love messages to his beautiful crush in the midst of the family’s Shraddha procession, causing unnecessary confusion. This leads to the villagers hearing that he is “possessed” by a spirit called “Sulochana”.
The third half is comedy, then in the second half, the character of Bhanu (Sandhya Arekere) subtly touches upon human rights, gender, the hardships and injustice faced by women in the village. The film lights up the entrance to the Samvedi Marg with humor and warms the heart.
Direction and Performances
J. P. Thuminad’s direction, story composition and the humorous character he plays—Ashok—especially the role of the manager are commendable. Shanil Gautham (Sri Ravi Anna) appeared heartwarmingly in the role of the old family-time ruler, making the comedy heart-pounding.
Sandhya Arekere’s (Bhanu) performance was serious, and the emotion left by Bhanu’s character lifted the film emotionally. Raj B. Shetty’s Karunakara in the role of “Guruji” was a rare surprise—his comedy style was appreciated by the audience.
The respectable technical departments—cinematography (S. Chandrasekaran), background score (Sandeep Thulasidas) and music (Sumedh K.)—provide “Su From So” with a beautiful and emotional dimension to the story.
Critics and Box-Office
The Times of India gave the film a 4/5 rating, praising it as “a film that blends comedy, emotion and sexual undertones well”.
It was hailed as “a social dance with a sense of humor”.
The film did a great job at the box-office: it earned ₹47.55 crore in its first 14 days on a budget of just ₹6 crore, earning the title of “blockbuster”.
Speciality – Sound, Visuals, Narrator’s Delight
The sound-visuals of the film are flawlessly perfect: the calm scenes of simple village life, the friendly characters in the action, and the inspired actors who make each character feel like a part of our hearts—all these make the film a “sweet village story”.
